The Lintumetsa School started in August 1998 in a new school building in Espoo, Lintuvaara, Finland. The distance to the centre of Helsinki is 14 km and to Espoo Leppävaara less than two kilometres.
Our school building is situated nearby a large wild forest area in the middle of private houses and row houses. The possibilities to observe the nearby environment are excellent.
During 2002-2003 there are 395 pupils and 44 teachers ( grades 6-9 ) in our school.
The idea of our school education is to develop the sense of responsibility and to create a positive attitude to the environment. We want to give our pupils an all-round education as wide as possible.
In our education we have also concentrated on environmental questions. All our pupils on the 7 th grade have one science-environment course as a common subject.
Our school has since the start taken part in the international Globe-project.

We take part in the Fenology investigation. In cooperation with Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Estonian schools we observe the progress of spring. We observe birds, spring flowers, insects, reptiles and frogs.
Other environmental investigations are the energy consumption of the schoolhouse and the effect of weather on it. We also observe the effect of the wind speed and the direction of the winds on energy consumption. We observe the amount of energy produced by the solar panels on the roof. The project is common with a school in Oslo, Norway.
