The book flyer.
This book is titled 'Learning and Work and the Politics of Working Life: Global transformations and collective identities in teaching, nursing and social work'. It focuses on the effects of neo-liberal reforms in nursing, teaching and social work in Finland, Germany, UK, US and Australia.
Using case studies, we discuss neo-liberal reforms that disturb human service work and occupational identities, the way these disturbances are experienced in everyday working life, and their implications for transforming politics. These case studies provide a basis for theorising the terms and conditions for practical politics in everyday working life.
We suggest that the politics of ‘we’ is a critical resource and agency in neo-liberal times. The work and learning involved in building a ‘we’ constructs spaces that disrupt neo-liberal priorities and rhythms of time. These spaces can sustain orientations that look beyond neo-liberalism and support practices of sociality, which permit dignity in life as a human. |
