Our school is for students aged 13-15 years old and we have about 250 students and 30 teachers. We mainly give basic education but we also have focus on teaching computers, science and mathematics. Our main goal is to grow up thoughtful and responsible youth.
Saloinen school is also interested in international education. We are part of Comenius -project (take a look page Comenius) and we also have Global education -club, which is voluntary club for students who are interested in international issues. Mrs. Satu Kallio is director of this club.
Saloinen is a suburb area of small city Raahe in Northern Finland. Raahe has over 20 000 inhabitants and our nearest bigger city and airport is founded at Oulu.
Raahe has quite interesting coastal town history. Town was founded 1649 under the governance of Sweden and Pehr Brahe, who was a high nobleman during the reign of Queen Christina. At late 1900-century, when Finland was part of Russia, we were one of the greatest wooden ship constructors in Finland and that history can be seen at old town (photos, text in finnish) and also in museum (java panorama).
