Our school had the honour to participate with 11 other European twin schools in the week of friendship organized by Lycée Jean Michel in Lons le Saunier. The first week in April marked the 20th anniversary of their European exchanges. There were delegations from Poland, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Slovenia, Italy, Romania, Germany,Latvia, Hungary, Slovakia and Finland. The total number of teachers and pupils in these foreign delegations was about 300.Our delegation was the smallest.
Our delegation consisting of one teacher and ten students was treated as guests of honour because a senior secondary school from Kuopio (Minna Canthin lukio) actually initiated these exchanges in 1988 and since 2007 we have continued their work in Kuopio. The week was full of activities: we attended lessons, visited local sights, walked on the mountains of Jura, went to the cinema, met students and teachers of our host school and of different foreign delegations on formal and less formal occasions. In addition, every visiting school was to present a project on sustainable development in their school. The highlight of the week was the closing ceremony in which every country presented something typical of their country or school. We had two programmes: a poem from the Kalevala, our national epic, and a
performance combining gymnastics and karate.
The visit was unforgettable, we had so many new and wonderful experiences, met so many nice people from all over Europe. The ten days we spent in France were really fantastic. Now we are looking forward to meeting our hosts here in Kuopio in April 2009.
