Kortepohja Elementary School is a comprehensive school for grades one through six. In 2008 – 2009 we have 330 students who study in fourteen classes. We also have a group for students with minor cognitive disabilities and a partly integrated small group for other Special Education Needs students, which belongs to the Viitaniemi school district. Our staff consists of 22 teachers, ten support assistants, a varying number of trainees, a school secretary and the headmaster.
In Jyväskylä the English-speaking classes are located in Kortepohja Elementary School and Viitaniemi Middle School.

Our main goal is to assist the children of our school in their development as well-balanced, active and independent citizens who are capable of international communication and responsible for themselves, other people and the environment.

The syllabus of Kortepohja School, in accordance with the national curriculum, defines the goals, learning content and methods by which the school aims at high quality comprehensive education. Kortepohja School has three key areas of emphasis in education:
1. Developing growth in individual responsibility and a healthy lifestyle
2. Implementing Content and language-integrated learning and providing English-speaking classes
3. Integrating special education groups with mainstream education
