Halssila School provides with comprehensive education for grades 1-6. The main principle for us is to bring up children with basic skills, wholesome self-knowledge and co-operative capacity. The capabilities of studying and interaction are in a key position.
Kauko (“The Net Desk”) is a way of studying the Finnish language by using the means of videoconference and supervised by a Finnish teacher. The teaching is carried out partly in a www-based study frame. Therefore the students learn about internet applications as well. Since the teaching is practised in small groups, it can be adapted to meet the students’ individual needs.
The teaching is organised by the city of Jyväskylä. In 2002-2003 this distant teaching method is directed to Thailand and the United States. There are five student groups and teachers active at the moment and the schools involved are Halssila, Pupuhuhta and Kuokkala.
