We carried out our very first exchange of students and teachers with our partner school, in Imola, Italy, in spring 2000. The theme of the exchange was Art, national heritage, since Imola is surrounded by historical and artistic sites and monuments. And modern times could offer us the famous F-1 track.
We had our Italian partners experience our winter in March, and we were able to enjoy their spring in Imola, the F-1 town, in April.
As our first exchange proved to be a succes, it gave a start to great interest in this form of internationalisation. The exchange partner for the school year 2000-2001 was Heilige Maagdcollege, Dendermonde, Belgium. A group of 20 belgian students were here for a week in January, to experience our arctic land and and to celebrate the 5th anniversary of our school on the 27th of January.
Then a group of our students went to Dendermonde in April 2000. The students worked on the theme of literature, and examined if and how a novel can be a mirror of the nation.
During the school year 2001- 02, we had an exchange with Strabrecht College, Geldrop, Netherlands. The Dutch students were here from 19.1.02 to 26.1.02 and worked with our students on the theme Light and Darkness. Our students visited Geldrop in April 3rd to 10th.
The exchange of the school year 2002 - 03 was with Spain. The Spanish group came here in September to study nature and environment, and our group went to Zaragoza, Spain in April 2003.
The exchange of the year 2003-04 took place in March with Second Lyceum of Kalamaria, Kalamaria, Greece, under the theme Sports and the Olympic Games. This was heightened by the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.
In the school year 2004-05 we carried out an exchange with Lycée Mansart, St. Cyr, France. The location of the school next to Versailles and Paris, offered us a unique theme: 'From Versailles to Aalto's Jyväskylä'. The French group was here in Janyary-February and we were able to admire Versailles and Paris in spring, late April.
Imola was to be our partner again for the exchange of the school year 2005-06. They hosted us in November 2005 and came to Jyväskylä for a week in March 2006. This exchange concentrated mainly on Italian and Finnish languages.
In the school year 2006-2007 Cygnaeus-lukio was organizing the big Taiga conference as EUROWEEK for our partners and that is why we didn't realize an exchange that year.
The exchange of school year 2007-2008 was realized with Lycée Hubert Clément
in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxemburg.
For the year 2008-2009 the partner school is Radyr Comprehensive school in Cardiff.
