European Education without Frontiers
Education without Frontiers, Education européenne sans frontières, is the title of the Europroject, a network consisting of 21 secondary schools from the EU countries. This network was started in 1989 and has grown along with the expansion of the European Union. Also, Cygnaeus-lukio belongs to this network since 1996 and represents Finland in it. The aims of the Europroject network is to find out what Europe is to each of us, and what we are to Europe. What makes Europe unique is its diversity, and within this network we can learn different ways of doing things and of thinking, and so learn tolerance, openness and cooperation.
The schools operate together on different levels:
1) All schools meet once a year in one of the member schools, which organizes a EUROWEEK on a together selected theme. A delegation of 6-8 students and 2 teachers and possibly the headmaster represent each school.
2) The network schools are very active in organizing student group EXCHANGES
3) The schools within the Europroject network can initiate OTHER PROJECTS with any school or schools on any theme they may choose, through mail, telephone, fax or e-mail. They may exchange studies, ideas, organize teacher/s visits and so on.
Europroject work is carried out as an applied study course in the Cygnaeus-lukio curriculum.
The Europroject activities are coordinated in schools by correspondents, in Cygnaeus-lukio by Satu Syyrakki e-mail: satu.syyrakki@jkl.fi
