International activity

One of the things Jämsä high school especially focuses on is internationality. Internationality comes up in many subjects, student exchange is practised a lot and international education is also given on courses.

Camp school (2 courses)

The students get to know a European country, construct presentations and collect money for the trip. They also get to make a week’s trip to the country in question.

World citizen’s maturity test (1 course)

The student can pick the subject his/herself. The work is done for The Finnish UN Association.

Student exchange or exchange student activity (1 course)

A week’s exchange with the Danish Skals Efterskole has been planned for the school year 2005-2006. In order to actualize this course we are requesting the Nordplus Junior financing that refunds the travelling expenses.

The Finnish group will stay in a Danish school during the school week and the weekends are spent in the host families. The Danish group will stay the whole week in Finnish host families.

The language of the exchange is English. The group size is approximately 20 students and two teachers.

Comenius exchange (2 courses)

We try to organize Comenius exchange once in three years.

Civic organization activity (1 course)

Consists of:
· A year’s activity in the organization and a report on it (a diary) (a description of the learning process)
· The activity can also consist of being a “godparent” for a “godchild”
· Taking part in a happening of the organization as an organizer
· Introducing the organization in school and/or on a website

Learning together online (1 course)

Studying and communication with associate schools using information technology and video conference equipment.
