Jämsä high school continues the traditions of the Jämsä co-educational school founded in 1905. There are approximately 250 students and 20 teachers in our school. The school is a general high school but we emphasize especially internationality, good manners and effective studying.
Our students take the matriculation examination after which they apply for university, polytechnic or vocational studies.
Jämsä high school does not only provide a motivating and pleasant working environment for its students but also succeeds in giving them good qualifications for versatile learning in the view of further studies. Co-operating with the surrounding society, it strives to cultivate responsible citizens who are capable of co-operation.
High school studies consist of compulsory, advanced and applied courses. Advanced courses are extension courses that are connected to the compulsory courses. The test tasks of matriculation examination are based on compulsory and advanced courses. Applied courses can be closely connected to a certain subject but they may also be based on many subjects differing from each other.
A study unit system is used in Jämsä high school and there are five units in a school year. To get through high school in normal time, three years, a student must complete approximately six courses within one unit. High school must be completed in four years. For a justified reason extra time can be granted by the principal.
