Juokslahti school is located in the northeastern part of Jämsä, close to the highway nr 9 between Jyväskylä and Tampere. The school is surrounded by beautiful open fields, with Lake Juoksjärvi in the middle, and also by rugged hills with thick forests. Lake Päijänne is about a kilometer away, and the nearest population centres are Jämsä and Jämsänkoski.
The village of Juokslahti has had its own school since 1891. The current school was built in the early 1950s and the building and the yard area were totally renovated in 1997. During the renovation the school also got club premises and a gym, which have been equipped by the village council and the local sports club, Juokslahden Tempaus
Our school has grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 of basic education. At the moment, there is a pre-school group as well, which we hope to get permanent.
Our teaching facilities and equipments are in excellent condition. In addition to those, we have, our own cooking kitchen and a spacious dining hall. Right next to the school building is a small village library and family day care centre, Hulivili.
The school really is the centre of the village, with lots of activity almost every evening.
