Alhojarvi School
Location
Our school is located in the city of Jamsa. The village of Alhojarvi is one of the most vital villages in Jamsa. Only a few kilometres away from the center of Jamsa towards Tampere, Alhojarvi is in the middle of wide fertile fields and the beautiful scenery by Lake Alhojarvi. Our village represents the Finnish countryside idyll at its best with fields,forests,and lakes.
School
Our school has three teachers and our school is also a vital and active village school. This year we have almost 50 pupils. We represent the typical village school tradition. Our strengths are in flexibility with our students, being close to nature and an individual character.
In the future we will study more and more in the realm of data technology and how to use different datawebs. For instance, we take part in the Pedanet village school project. Its idea is to illuminate the possibilities of datawebs to enlarge the network of village schools and to find new possibilities for teamwork and communication between them.
Working together
Our school works hand in hand with many different people. Parents have been actively reconstructing both school rooms and the environment. As a result of this cooperation, we have
a running track and a volleyball field, as well as other 'luxuries' we would not otherwise have been able to construct.
We have also done fruitful work together with the village's own sports club called Alhon Aki
The club is a so called "general" club, but it has especially excelled at Finnish baseball - our national game. If you want to have some more information about Alhon Aki, please have a look at its homepage.
We have the Comenius project with Arvaja school from Finland, Via Mameli school from Italy and Gerardus school from Holland
Our work
We are an active and lively working village school in Jamsa. We are developing both the local, territorial and national web of village schools and cooperation between them. Our goal is to do extensive work together with other village schools in the different fields of learning and to exchange thoughts and ideas with different schools.
We try to pay attention to the individual needs of pupils as much as possible both in teaching and other activities and thus be a serving, stimulating and modern village school. Through different projects, we are developing our school to be the school of the entire village and to be a study and activity center for all.
