Global warming in North Karelia

NK:s greenhouse gasses for a dwelling were 8,7 tons in year 2007. The biggest emissions were energy production and traffic. They correspond about 80% of carbon dioxide-, methane- and entonoxemission. Energy productions ja traffics emissions form 82% of NK:s greenhouse gasses. From production emissions 35% comes from traffic, 32% from district heating and 13% from other heatings.

Woods store carbon in NK about 2,79 million tons every year. Carbon storing can be grown by increasing number of forest and production of forests. The most notable carbon store is in peat (85%).

North Karelia is also one of the worlds leading bioenergy users. NK has lots of renewable nature resources.
North Karelias aim for future:
"During next years, North Karelia has
changed electricitys production and
heating from fossilic fuels to renewable
energy. Traffic fuels 20% are renewable.
Green house gasses have lowed at the least 20%
from 1990."
